The journey of life is as unique for each of us as our very own DNA. As the years pass, we all choose our own paths that leave us with lasting memories. One day, we are in our twenties and concerned with our friends, latest trends and being bold and carefree. Then, if we are lucky enough, in a blink of an eye, we awake one morning and are welcoming our 65th Birthday and are ready for Medicare!

Congratulations! Turning 65 is a BIG deal! You have seen and experienced life. However, it also means that you aren’t as young as you once were. You may ‘feel’ young but your body is probably telling you otherwise. Turning 65 also means you may have simmered down a bit, especially with retirement around the corner, recent or ongoing health concerns, and/or changes in your finances. Florida MedicareWith old health concerns or new health issues, how will you manage to take care of your health with less financial contribution? Well, at 65, you are now eligible for Medicare. But what does that mean? What is Medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program specifically designed for those 65 or older, certain younger individuals with disabilities, and individuals with End-Stage Renal Disease. Medicare is broken up into four sections to cover specific patient needs.

Part A provides Hospital coverage for circumstances requiring inpatient care, skilled nursing facility, hospice and some home health care.

Part B is Medical Insurance covering specific doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventative services.

Part C is a type of Medicare health plan offered from a private company that is contracted with Medicare to provide your Medicare A and B benefits. These are Advantage Plans which include Health Maintenance Organizations, Preferred Provider Organizations, Private Fee-for-Service Plans, Special Needs Plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans. Being enrolled in the Advantage Plan means that most of your Medicare services will be covered and won’t be paid under your original Medicare plan.

Part D provides prescription drug coverage to original Medicare, specific Medicare cost plans, Medicare private-fee-for-service plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans. These are alternative plans offered by Insurance companies that Medicare approves.
